To a certain degree employers are allowed to monitor the behaviour of their employees. This is an integral part of their authority as employer. However, the employer’s right to control must be balanced with the rights and freedoms of others. In relation to the technical enforcement of a company’s security policies, by systems such as MUSES, highly relevant are the employees’ rights to the protection of their private life and their personal data.
In order for MUSES to become a privacy-friendly security solution, a legal partner in the consortium, KU Leuven, analyses privacy and data protection in the MUSES context.
The close collaboration between the legal and technical partners in MUSES is essential for the sucess of the project, considering that the principle of privacy and data protection by design are growing in the EU and beyond (cfr. Article 23 Proposed EU Data Protection Regulation)
